A Foodie Review: Tillamook & The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen

First up for brunch was the new Farmstyle Greek Yogurt from Tillamook. I am a traditionalist, so I went straight for the Old Fashioned Vanilla. Oh my goodness. Epic flavors ensued. Due to the high protein content and overall deliciousness, I eat A LOT of Greek yogurt. Let me assure you, this is some of the best Greek yogurt that I have tasted. It doesn't have the bite that many others do, which I enjoyed. The texture is thick, luxurious and creamy. Kelly from Soda Pop PR sent me home with a bag full of Tillamook awesomeness, so I have since tasted the Cinnamon Hazelnut and Honey Peach. I have yet to find a favorite, because they are all so equally amazing. And that's saying a lot for me, as I tend to be pretty picky.
Next up on the brunch menu were Apple Cinnamon muffins that our host, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, had whipped up for us. Chef Heidi came out and gave us some baking tips and explained how to replace other dairy products with Greek yogurt. Let me use one word to describe these muffins: MOIST. The texture was somehow light and airy, while being so incredibly decadently moist at the same time. The chunks of fresh apple were heavenly, and she even drizzled some of the Cinnamon Hazelnut yogurt on top. Epic move from Heidi, the Commander-in-Cheese.
So, I mentioned that I'm picky, right? The next thing on our brunch menu was Kale Slaw. Based on my previous coleslaw experiences, I have not so fond memories of mayonnaise-laden salad dishes. But in the spirit of trying new things, I ventured out. Oh my word, I am so glad I did. This ended up being my second favorite dish of the entire brunch!!! It was fresh and peppery and had so much depth of flavor, and look at that beautiful green kale and red cabbage! The fact that it was made with Greek Yogurt just floored me even more. YUM!
Next up was Chef Heidi's Strata. It was full of gooey Tillamook cheddar, ham, leeks and greek yogurt. The only way to properly describe this dish is: A hug in a cup. There aren't words to describe the goodness, so I just suggest that you taste test the recipe for yourself. Chef Heidi and Nate said this strata is on the menu at The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen from time to time. If you're in the area, do yourself the favor of stopping in and indulging in some strata!
With a happy heart and full belly, we had one more course of deliciousness ahead – made to order breakfast sandwiches. Being a classic kind of gal, I ordered up just that, the Classic with Sharp Cheddar, Monterey Jack and an over-easy egg. Oh my sweet taste buds, does it get any better? I now understand why Chef Heidi has won 7 national grilled cheese championships. It was love smothered in cheese and egg. Absolutely delectable. If you haven't tried a sandwich from The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen in SF, you must. It's totally worth the extra hour you'll spend at the gym the next morning.
Such a stellar brunch full of food definitely meant to-go boxes, and the great folks at Tillamook also sent me home with a bag full of their new Farmstyle Greek Yogurt. I'm still working my way through the assortment, and I have yet to be disappointed. The only problem will be finding my favorite flavor.
